The Dissolved Air Flotation Unit is a fast and efficient method of removing turbidity, color, suspended solids and other contaminants from water using air bubbles. These specially manufactured air bubbles are first mixed with the wastewater, attaching to the solids present, and they are separated by flotation, leaving clear water. DAF has been widely accepted for drinking water treatment, municipal wastewater, and various industrial applications
Working principle
A Dissolved Air Flotation Unit (DAF) is a water treatment process that purifies wastewater (or other water) by removing suspended solids such as oil or solids. Removal is accomplished by dissolving air in water or wastewater under pressure and then releasing the air at atmospheric pressure in a flotation cell. The released air forms tiny bubbles that attach to the suspended matter, causing it to float to the surface, where it can then be removed by a skimming device.
Application
Dissolved Air Flotation Units are very widely used to treat industrial wastewater from oil refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants, gas processing plants, paper mills, general water treatment and similar industrial facilities. A very similar process called induced flotation is also used for wastewater treatment. Froth flotation is commonly used in ore processing.
