The recycle stream then mixes and mixes with the incoming wastewater in an internal contact chamber, where dissolved air is drawn out of solution in the form of micron-sized bubbles attached to the contaminants. Air bubbles and contaminants rise to the surface and form a floating bed material, which is removed by a surface skimmer into an internal hopper for further processing.

Working principle

The first influent effluent from the Dissolved Air Flotation Unit for Water Treatment enters the flotation vessel where it contacts the recycled treated effluent. The percentage of the total effluent flow in which air is dissolved under pressure and then recirculated will be determined by effluent-specific factors. Once the saturated effluent enters the flotation cell, the pressure is released back to atmospheric pressure. This immediately causes the circulating flow to become supersaturated, creating microbubbles as the dissolved air leaves the solution. These micro-bubbles then adhere to solids or chemical flocculants entering the vessel, causing them to float to the surface where they remain, where they are subsequently removed by mechanical skimmers.
