Dissolved air flotation wastewater is an effective and widely used wastewater treatment technology. The process involves introducing air into the wastewater at high pressure, which forms tiny bubbles. These bubbles then attach to impurities in the water, causing them to float to the surface, where they can then be removed.
Working principle
Dissolved air flotation wastewater works by dissolving more air in the wastewater than is possible at normal pressure, then rapidly reducing pressure to release tiny bubbles, which attach to suspended solids or contaminants in the wastewater, causing them to float to the surface and subsequently be removed by a scraper. This technology has found applications in industries such as food processing, papermaking, and petrochemicals, and is also used in municipal wastewater treatment and pretreatment of drinking water treatment, such as removing algae to protect reverse osmosis membranes from fouling.
In the DAF process, wastewater is first fed into a pressure vessel containing a dissolved gas, usually air. As the pressure is reduced, the gas is released from the water, forming tiny bubbles. These bubbles combine with particles suspended in the water, causing them to float to the surface and form scum. This scum can be easily removed, resulting in clearer water.
